Our house is built on 2 storeys above our garage and has light and airy views towards the sea. The bedrooms and bathroom are on the 1st floor and the 2nd floor has a fully fitted kitchen with dining area, a living room and a balcony.
The living room, with windows on 3 sides, offers views over towards the sea and barrier islands to the front, and cobbled pathways to the side of the house. Patio doors lead onto the balcony looking over the rooftops of old Olhao.
The kitchen is fully equipped with cooker, fridge freezer, microwave and everything you might need to make that special meal after buying your fresh produce from the market.
Steps from the balcony lead to our roof terrace with fantastic 360º views over to the sea and islands at the front and back to the old town and hills beyond. The terrace has shade and sun-loungers and is the perfect place to relax. After a hard day’s sunbathing or sightseeing, the lights over the town rooftops and the stars above the Islands are simply magical.
The comfortable front bedroom has a king size bed with a window looking over the square.
The rear bedroom has two single beds with plenty of wardrobe space and looks over the pedestrian cobbled way.
The whole area around our house is pedestrianised, so there’s no traffic to worry about near the house and in just a few steps it’s easy to reach the promenade and sea-front.
Olhao is a working fishing port and so is still very Portuguese and has managed to keep that ambience whilst also updating its image and it’s full of cafes and restaurants, many only metres away from our front door.
Although Olhao itself does not have a beach, there is a lovely promenade, harbour and marina and lots of exploring to do in the maze of cobbled streets in the old quarter. For beaches just catch one of the ferry boats to the nearby Island of Armona and you can spend the day sunbathing and swimming returning to Olhao for supper at one of the many restaurants.
Olhao has lots to offer, the old town, the markets and of course the restaurants. Less than 20 minutes from Faro airport and with excellent public transport, a car really isn’t necessary when visiting Olhao, and throughout the year restaurants and cafes are open and ready for you to enjoy your stay.
