Casa Rodrigo

In the heart of the Algarvean countryside, our cottage has been renovated with loving care, creating a comfortable, authentic place to stay, yet with all modern conveniences.

Just along the track from our own main house we recently  restored Casa Rodrigo.We fell in love with this area when we moved to Portugal 15 years ago and it’s still just as beautiful.  Picturesque villages nearby, birdsong, wild flowers and a choice of walking trails are all reasons to spend a peaceful holiday here.

Our cottage has a spacious living/dining area which looks out onto the terrace, with a beautiful salt water swimming pool and lounging area. A perfect space to lie and bask in the sunshine whilst listening to the birds and cicadas in the trees. Inside, there is a flat screen tv as well as a log burning stove together with a selection of cd’s, many being traditional Portuguese folk and fado music,  for cosy nights in by the fire.

The main bedroom is decorated with a cork oak tree design using the original stone walls and has a king size bed. The second bedroom has two single beds  and two bathrooms complete the picture.  There is also a separate annexe room , the old bake-house, which is self contained with a single bed.

Casa Rodrigo has a fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, and American style fridge freezer for all your culinary needs.  In the locality we have some great restaurants and cafés too. Ranging from simple to more elegant, they all produce good meals and wine at affordable  prices making eating out an unmissable part of your holiday.

Outside the house we have a lovely terrace with a beautiful 6x3m.  salt-water swimming pool. The views are completely into the countryside and nearby there is an abundance of walking in cork oak plantations as well as two National Parks; the Fonte de Benémola and Rocha da Pena. There are many documented walks or we can offer guided walks if you prefer. The Via Algarveana also runs very close by our house.

Our area is a  bird watchers paradise with many types of birds, including the rare Bonelli’s eagle, as well as Golden Aurioles, Hoopoes Woodpeckers, Nightingales, Owls and Azure winged Magpies .Other wildlife includes wild boar, badgers, foxes, civets and geckos as well as terrapins and otters down in the Fonte da Benémola.

A stay in Casa Rodrigo is perfect for nature and bird-lovers, walkers and people who just want to relax in the heart of the countryside. If you love animals we have 3 friendly dogs and quite a few cats as well as a horse at our home along the track. As well as our lovely pool, there are beautiful beaches within a half hour drive.

The only thing that is necessary is a car, as Casa Rodrigo is 3 kilometres from the nearest village and 5 km from the nearest supermarket. Loulé, our nearest town is 15 km away. It’s a way to experience the true rustic Algarve, away from the rush of tourist development. Casa Rodrigo is suitable for all able bodied people and for children over the age of 8 years old.
